Scientific experiment is layered over open sea footage; what experiments borrow from us, from the environment, non-human beings, and what it potentially brings in return remains open. The contrast between colours and the movement of the experiments and sea points to the difficulty of tracing the connections between science, labor and their turn into technologies.
Material creates unexpected light patterns that come from imperfections in the experiment, which also carries human presence. Material is forced into its vulnerable state, to break down, to test its utmost potential, and lives briefly. The experiment doesn't merge with the flowing sea but frames it in the background.
This work proposes looking at imperfections and at the traces of invisible presences in technologies, in different temporalities and histories.
Quantum dot crystals are human-made emit specific light based on their size. In laboratory tests, under voltage, they glow, reach their maximum, and break down. This experiment draws on LEDs for screens. Consider the different intentions behind using these materials’ technologies.
